The story behind Human Chalisa

It is believed that Poet Tulsidas the author of "Ramcharitmanas" sang the Hanuman Chalisa to the devotee of Lord Rama. Mughal emperor Aurangzeb who prisoned Tulsidas challenged him to show the lord to him, he replied that Rama could only be seen with true devotion. They angered the emperor and put the poet behind bars for 40 days and he recited 40 verses of the chant, hence the name ‘Chalisa’. It is popularly believed that an army of monkeys menaced Delhi when Tulsidas completed his ode and recited the Chalisa.
